The history of Pietro Carnaghi covers over 100 years, for more than four generations. It began back in 1922 and continues today with the company as a global leader in the production of medium and large vertical lathes and gantry milling machines. In addition to machinery, Pietro Carnaghi offers advanced machining technologies that help to solve all of the customer’s production challenges. A key feature of the company’s vision is its customer-oriented approach, supported and enhanced by a dynamic and responsive organizational structure. Currently, the main production facility (located in Villa Cortese, Milan) has been significantly expanded, with new units dedicated to the manufacture of large machines. The new buildings reach a useful height of 21 meters, bringing the total surface area up to around 50,000 m².

Pietro Carnaghi begins forging metals activity and the building of small machine tools in Busto Arsizio (VA).
1939
Pierino and Angelo Carnaghi, Pietro’s sons, join the company and begin producing shaping machines for Italy and abroad markets.
1973
Flavio Radice, Pierino’s son-in-law, undergoes a major restructuring, introducing the company into the vertical lathe production sector. Flavio Radice will remain as Company CEO, and then President, and will build a concrete enforcement of Pietro Carnaghi in the international market.
1981
ISPA S.p.A. is founded as a machining facility for Pietro Carnaghi, located in Villa Cortese (MI), and later it was incorporated into the parent company. Production of large "Gantry" type portal milling machines begins.
1988 - 1990
Pietro Carnaghi G.m.b.H. opens in Germany and Pietro Carnaghi France S.a.r.l. in France, as commercial and technical support branches.
2000
The production unit moved to Villa Cortese (MI).
2006
Expansion and construction of new production capacity.
2009 – 2012
Pietro Carnaghi USA Inc. and Pietro Carnaghi Trading Co. LTD. Jinan in China are opened to strengthen the company’s presence in local markets, both in terms of service and sales.
2015
New products are developed, including milling upgrades and 5-axis vertical lathes, the Flexturn machines.
2018
The fourth generation is now active in the company with: Giuliano Radice - CEO, Stefania Carnaghi - Member of the Board, Marisa Carnaghi - Member of the Board and Adriano Carnaghi - President.
2022
The company, led by the third and fourth generations of the founding Carnaghi family, celebrates 100 years of business and it consolidates with 260 employees and its presence all over the world.
2025
Pietro Carnaghi SPA joins Fives Group, further strengthening the presence of the company in the machine-tool market. Pietro Carnaghi joins Fives Group, a leading global industrial engineering group with a turnover of € 2.3 billion and a workforce of over 9,200 employees in 2024. Pietro Carnaghi is a key pillar of High Precision Machines (“HPM”) division of Fives. Two global, customer-centric, market-leading players together to expand markets, customers, and capabilities, to the benefits of their clients. Together, the operations of the HPM division of Fives and Pietro Carnaghi are expected to generate revenues of approximately € 400-450 million and rely on a workforce of 1,900 employees across the globe. This important and exciting step in Pietro Carnaghi’s history strengthen the Company’s ability to serve even better its customer base, benefiting from enhanced capabilities and larger resources with long-term stability and ensure continuity.
